Who we are
Avani Academy ("we", "us") provides live online maths tutoring for students in Grades 5–12. Lessons are taught by Avani Shukla. For anything about your personal data, email avaniacademy1@gmail.com or message us on WhatsApp at +91 97264 19892.
This policy explains what we collect through avani.sbs and our lessons, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.
What we collect
When you request a free trial
The trial form asks for:
- your name, and an email address and/or WhatsApp number;
- your country, the student's grade or school year, and optionally their curriculum, a preferred lesson time and what they need help with;
- whether you'd like occasional maths tips and updates by email (optional, unticked by default).
We also record, automatically: your device's time zone (so we can suggest lesson times), the page you submitted from, and — if you arrived from an advert or a tracked link — the campaign details in the link (for example utm tags or a Google Ads click ID). To stop spam we store a one-way scrambled code (hash) derived from your IP address, not the IP address itself.
Website analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager to understand how many people visit, which pages are useful and whether the trial form works. These tools use cookies and similar technologies and receive information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type.
- In the UK and the European Economic Area, analytics and advertising cookies are off by default; if your device is set to a European time zone you'll see a choice to accept or decline. Your choice is remembered on your device.
- We also use the Meta Pixel (from Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram) to measure whether our Facebook and Instagram adverts lead to trial requests, and to show our adverts to people who have visited the site. It records pages viewed and when a trial request is sent or a WhatsApp, phone or email link is clicked — not the details you type into the form. In the UK and EEA it follows the same accept/decline choice.
- Elsewhere, analytics is on by default. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Our testimonials section shows videos from Instagram. Instagram's code only loads when you scroll to that section, and Instagram may then set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.
Students using the learning platform
If a student is enrolled, we create an account so they can take online tests. This holds their name, class, login details and test answers and results, which only the student and Avani Academy staff can see.
Messages and lessons
If you contact us by WhatsApp, email or phone, we keep that conversation to arrange and run lessons. Lessons take place on Google Meet or Zoom, which are covered by Google's and Zoom's own privacy policies.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and arrange a trial and lessons (steps you've asked us to take).
- To teach and support students, including setting work and tracking progress.
- To send occasional maths tips and updates, only if you ticked the box — you can unsubscribe from any of these emails with one click.
- To keep the site secure and working, including preventing spam and abuse (our legitimate interests).
- To understand and improve the site, using analytics as described above (with your consent where the law requires it).
We do not sell your personal data, and we don't use it for automated decisions that affect you.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Vercel (website hosting) and our hosted PostgreSQL database provider — where enquiries and student accounts are stored. Our servers are in the United States.
- Google — Gmail (sending and receiving email), Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, and Google Meet.
- Zoom, if lessons take place on Zoom.
- Meta (Facebook / Instagram) — the Meta Pixel for advert measurement, and the embedded testimonial videos.
- AI providers (such as Anthropic or Google), used by our staff to help draft maths questions and worksheets. We don't send enquiry details to these services.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a student or anyone else.
International transfers
Avani Academy is based in India and our website and database are hosted in the United States, while our families live in many countries. When your data moves between countries we rely on our providers' standard contractual protections.
How long we keep it
- Trial enquiries: while we're in touch about lessons and for up to 24 months after our last contact, then deleted — sooner if you ask.
- Newsletter consent: until you unsubscribe; we keep a record that you unsubscribed so we don't email you again.
- Student accounts and results: while the student is learning with us and for up to 24 months afterwards, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Analytics data: according to the retention settings of Google Analytics.
Children
Our tutoring is for school-age students, but the trial form is meant to be completed by a parent or guardian. If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us. If you think a child has sent us personal data without a parent's knowledge, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, Canada's PIPEDA, Australia's Privacy Act or US state laws), you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct it, or delete it;
- stop using it for a particular purpose, or withdraw consent you've given (such as for emails or cookies).
Email avaniacademy1@gmail.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with our response you may complain to your local data protection authority (for example the ICO in the UK).
Security
We use HTTPS throughout, restrict access to enquiries and student data to authorised staff, protect logins against password-guessing, and store passwords only in hashed form. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our services or the law change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
